Before I begin, I would like to formally introduce myself.
Hello! 🤗 I am Mama Aerial (Aerial Mildred Sara Geneva Folsom Melvin). Why so many names? Well my parents named me after my grandmothers: Mildred, Sara, and Geneva and my maiden name is Folsom. Yes.. social security and drivers license cards can be a little tricky 😜
I was born in Anchorage, Alaska where my dad was stationed in the Air Force. My parents decided to move back to their home town when my sister and I were little and I was raised in the Panhandle of Florida.
When I was 18 years old I married the love of my life, Jimmy Andrew Melvin. I call him Andrew ❤️ On my surprise birthday party on October 5th, 2012 (my actual birthday is October 1st) Andrew proposed in front of family and friends and nine months later on June 22nd, 2013 we tied the knot in the small-town church I grew up in.
Fun note: When Andrew picked out my ring and asked my dad for his blessing, he wrote me letters of what he was doing and the excuses he gave me so I wouldn’t know what he was up to! When we got married we made a 5 year plan. That meant we were going to finish our Bachelors Degrees together, get our careers started, find our First Home, save a certain amount in our savings, and travel – all before having children.
Thankfully we did everything we planned on doing… except making it to our five year anniversary before having our first child 🤷🏼♀️.
We both graduated, started our jobs, moved to the country in a farm house, and traveled each anniversary to: (our honeymoon – The Bahamas); San Antonio, Texas; Atlanta, Georgia; Charleston, South Carolina; Biloxi, Mississippi and extra travels to New Orleans, Louisiana and New York City, New York.
We were right on track until my mom told me – out of the blue – that I was indeed, pregnant. I denied it and refused to take any tests…. until the next morning. Valentine’s Day 2017 I woke up sick so I thought I will just take a pregnancy test to prove to my mom that I was not pregnant and to figure out what kind of sickness that I truly had.
But there it was……
Positive. Like… REALLY positive. That pee-on-a-stick was telling me p-o-s-i-t-i-v-e. I was in complete shock. We planned to try on our 5th anniversary to start our family and we had only been married 3 years and 8 months at that point. I took the test out to my husband. He couldn’t believe it and actually said that it might not be true so I went and took two more tests… BOTH positive.
Needless to say we didn’t fully believe it until we had our first ultrasound shortly after and everything changed. We knew we were officially parents! And I was already 2 months along.
We already had a trip planned to New York which was when I would be in my second trimester so we waited to announce with pictures in New York. (Photos below).
Shortly after we had a gender reveal at my parents house. My dad is a pilot so we entrusted him to be the only person to know the gender before the party. He flew his airplane above us and dropped out Baby BLUE powder. We were having a BOY! 💙 We kept our son’s name a secret until he was born (except for my mom who we wanted to include on a secret), but boy did people sure want to know!
During June we celebrated our 4th year anniversary of marriage.
On October 1st (my birthday), I went into labor.
Side note: My great grandma Haveard who shared the same birthday as me for 22 years had passed away the year before, on October 3rd. We thought he might come on the 1st or the 3rd but…
On October 2nd, 2017 (right in between) Jett Cloud Billy Grey Charles Melvin was born at 10:55PM weighing 8 pds, 8 oz (the same exact weight I was as a baby) and measured 21 inches long. 👶🏻✈️☁️
We chose the name Jett because I was going to be named Lear if I were a boy (my parents had two girls and we have airplane names – Cessna and Aerial). So as a tribute to my dad, having his first grandchild and grandson we named him Jett, since the Lear aircraft is a Lear “Jet”. Billy and Charles are after his grandfathers and Grey is after my late Great Grandma Haveard.
If you have any questions about me, my pregnancy, or newborn hacks/products feel free to comment or message me! I try to be an open book to get to know people on a personal level!
